Tanzania Opens Government Securities to all Foreign Investors

We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.

The Bank of Tanzania has amended its foreign exchange regulations to allow all non-resident investors to invest in Tanzania’s Treasury bills and government bonds.

Previously, access was largely limited to investors from the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and members of the Tanzanian diaspora. The new regulations remove those restrictions, giving global investors direct access to the country’s domestic government debt market.

The move is expected to widen Tanzania’s investor base, deepen its capital markets, and strengthen the government’s ability to raise long-term financing. It also signals the country’s continued push to attract international capital and integrate more closely with global financial markets.
